Specialized Communication in Tourism/

Fachkommunikation rund um den Tourismus/

Comunicazione Specialistica in Ambito Turistico

Alghero, 6-7 Ottobre 2011 Italy

The Department of Language Studies of the University of Sassari (Italy) organizes a conference entitled “Specialized Communication in Tourism” in Alghero (Sassari) on 6th/7th October 2011.

The topic of the conference is authentic communication in tourism: a sector which from the linguistic-communicative point of view is particularly complex because of the wide range of specialized languages characteristic of various disciplines and topics (history of art, geography, culture, cuisine, leisure activities, etc.), the vast array of textual genres (scientific papers, brochures, travel guides of various types and specialized levels) and, finally, the range of communicative functions that characterize them.

The starting point is the research and didactic potential offered by recent modern computer-based technologies in the fields of mono- and bilingual communication. In particular, the possibility of compiling corpora of large dimensions and / or the ready retrieval of authentic materials has opened new horizons both in lexicography and the teaching and learning of second/foreign languages.

Conference topics are the following:

· LSP learning and teaching: studies in Content-Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and Data Driven Learning (DDL)

· Complex Units of Meaning and Phraseology in mono- and bilingual communication

The conference languages are Italian, English and German. The selected papers will deal with Italian and/or German and /or English or a contrastive study.

Abstracts of approximately 400 words (including the most relevant bibliography), written in one of these three languages, will have to be sent to . The deadline for abstracts is 15th July 2011.
